From Treetops to Tails
WILDLIFE ENCOUNTERS
Wai Island is not only a gateway to Raja Ampat’s marine life, but also home to unique forest wildlife. Native to the island, the cuscus—a nocturnal, tree-dwelling marsupial—is often spotted right on the property. Look up after sunset and you might catch one moving quietly among the trees.
For bird lovers, we also offer guided birdwatching excursions to nearby Waigeo Island, where over 250 species have been recorded. The highlight: spotting the rare Wilson’s and Red birds-of-paradise in their natural habitat. These tours must be pre-booked and are best in the early morning or late afternoon. Moderate fitness is recommended, as trails can be humid and challenging.
